Myanmar 4/6: Bagan

After the boat trip I took a bus to Bagan, one of the top sites in SE Asia along with Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Borobudur in Indonesia (posted earlier in blog). Bagan was the top site I wanted to see in Asia when I left home. The ruins cover 16 square miles and possess over 2000 pagodas

Ananda Temple was built in 1105

"Ananda temple is a perfectly dimensioned stylistic structure, a fusion of Mon and Indian architectural styles and is the central monument built in the Pagan valley." wikipedia

4 Buddhas are inside, facing North/South/East/West.

There are 2 ways to get around Bagan. On horse cart which is slow but comfortable or bicycle which is faster.

Most of the pagodas were built between the 11th and 13th century

There were over 5,000 but only 2216 remain. Many lost to earthquakes...

Ananda Temple again

I was kind of lazy because it was 107 degrees both days I ventured out on bicycle

Every pagoda has Buddha inside...
