From Bali I went to Malang on the island of Java, the most populated in Indonesia. The bus ride was supposed to be 9 hours but ended up being closer to 15. It included a short ferry ride between the islands.
In Malang I surfed with Imke and her family which was amazing. The hospitality in Indonesia is world class! Here is the view from our front door.

The real highlight of going to Eastern Javais visiting the Bromo Volcano complex.
I went for sunrise: viewed from Mount Pananjakan at sunrise. Bromo lower left, Mt Semeru is large volcano in distance and mt Batok in front

Mount Semeru is the largest peak on Java at 3,676 m (12,060 ft), it has erupted at least 55 times since 1918, 10 times resulting in fatalities.

Mt Batok, the only dormant of the 5 volcanoes |
The area in and around the park is inhabited by the Tengger people, one of the few significant Hindu communities remaining on the island of Java
